seth b - glacier ep 320kbps
glacier is a series of songs i recorded between january and april 2009. during this time i had decided to only write songs that were 120 beats per minute. it is mostly techno, and tech-house, with a progressive and melodic flavor.
1 sky 08:32
2 locale 07:39
3 glacier 22:23
4 light 06:00
5 sun hollow 09:36
i completed many of these songs one year ago. shortly after i made files of the demo mixes all of the originals were accidently deleted. luckily i had the mp3's on my mp3-walkman. these songs are finished compositions, though the mixing/eq'ing is not complete. had the original files not become erased some aspects would be fixed in the following songs, some drum sounds might have been louder, i may have turned down the bass on a synth part.
'sky' sets the mood of the suite, mid tempo techno percussion, harmonically thick, algorithmic apreggios, dreamy. it lulls and engages the listener, who is next led into 'locale', a darker, acidic tech-house piece. the acid synth which tweaks throughout the piece is a multilayered appreggio performed on a korg synth. it was achieved by sending a constant appreggio in 5/4 at 120 bpm to the synth via midi. the korg recieved these notes in the same timing, but these signals were interpreted to the synths tempo which was tweakable by hand. 120 bpm modulated by an ENV filter, thereby achieving any integer value ratio of polyrhythmns between 0 or 256, divided by 120.
'glacier' is a 22 minute techno odyssey. the long duration is a meditation on the global timelines by which glacial formations change. a deep tech style underlines soaring, ice reverberated symphonic synth sounds which on a very slow timescale swell into earhot.
'light' and 'sun hollow' are subdued. consisting of drums tethering drones and soupy chaos.
